I've been wanting to do this for a while but instead of trying to formulate a recipe I thought I'd just do this:

Purchase a simple porter kit from where ever, and then add my spices and pumpkin to the brew as instructed from a pumpkin ale recipe. Will this be ok? And what type of yeast should I use? Would using the yeast that comes with the porter kit be acceptable?

Thoughts will be appreciated.

BTW, I'm doing this in all-grain.

Should work out fine. I've read that some brewers simply add the pumpkin to the mash, adding as little as 1/2 quart per pound. I believe it will have little effect on your SG.

I'm planning on using pie pumpkins. Will I get anything out of them if I boil instead of mash?

boil it, puree it, and add it to the mash. You'll get a bit of flavor and some body from. The porter may be a bit overpowering for the pumpkin flavor but I think it would be a nice brew.

I'm doing this same thing. I found a NB honey porter recipe that I'm going to add pumpkin and spices to. Will this throw off the OG drastically by adding the pumpkin or is it so little I shouldn't worry?

Just for the sake of updating the og didn't change at all by adding the pumpkin. The beer looks like it will be great! :ban:
