I purchased my first kegerator about 7 years ago - a Danby from my local Sam's club. As many of you may know, they had a lot of problems but after several years of tweaking and making modifications it served me well to dispense commercial beer along with some local micros.
About 6 months ago I decided I wanted to start getting into home brew and if I was going to do so I knew I wanted to have at least 2-3 beers on tap at any given time. After a ton of browsing on this site and others I finally settled on my plans to modify a black Kenmore 8.8 and add 3 taps with a walnut collar. Check out my finished product below. I've now brewed 2 home brews (cream ale and Stella Clone) with plans to start on 2 more in the coming weeks.
I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I went with double hinges so that it would be easier to get a half barrel in there if I wanted to. Perlick taps, 3 separate secondaries, and the internal air circulating fan were all ideas I picked up from this forum.
On top I went with custom made magnetic decals instead of tap handles to identify my brews. The reasoning was several fold: I didn't really have room for the tap handles, I really like the clean look of the black short handles, and I will be able to save all of the magnets and attach to the side/front to keep track of all my brews. I made the image in about an hour in Photoshop with my brewery name (Ecto 1). So what do you think? This baby was a long time coming and I'm so happy I did it.
