It was 27 this morning in N Dallas. Our office shut down due to the frozen rain/sleet we got last night, so now I am working from home and catching up on the forums.

While not personally into licking my brew equipment, doesn't saying or hearing the word 'sparging' make you hehe chuckle, or is it just me?:rockin:

I live in what is commonly referred to as the 'bannana belt' of Oregon. Normally warm and rainy winters. Since Thursday, the temperature hasn't gotten above freezing or at least enough to matter. At night, temperatures are about 20 degrees F. And there is a good foot of snow here at 660 feet elevation. Kids are skiing and snowboarding down the road and catching tows back uphill from cars.

So, for all you east of me, if you think the last two or three waves of storms and cold and snowy, brace fore more. This one definitely has more punch. And as of last night, the weatherman had not even mentioned the possibility. Forcast was for sunny and warming.

When I was in the Navy I spent about a year in Corpus Christi and laughed me arse off when they got their "annual ice storm". The whole town was shut down and I swear I was the only one out on SPID when I was making my normal after work trip to B&J's for beer and pizza. When I got there (in my usual 5 minutes) there were only 6 cars in the lot. 2 of them had Wisconsin plates, 1 from Minnesota, 1 from Illinois, 1 from New York, and 1 from Texas (the owner who "got trapped there")
Your think that's bad, LA's got everyone beat. Just normal rain makes this place shut down. And now that there's been a little frost in the morning, you'd think by the news coverage that it was the second comming of Christ. OMG it actually snowed in Riverside! It's happened before, people... we all know because the 5 people that could actually remember from the 1940's were interviewed like crazy on the news. And what a completely foreign concept that when water pipes freeze, they can burst. What a dumb town this is...

I'm seriously concerned about my water line. There are three sections where it crosses streams along the sides of the bridges. On the plus side, it is PVC, so it has more stretch than copper or iron.

I just got back from a trip to KC. The flight got rerouted to Saint Louis on the waybecause of Ice in KC. The storm was also hitting St.Louis. the trains were not running so I had to rent a car and drive the interstate. It took 6 1/2 hours to go 240 miles and really sucked. Rain, fog, ice and sludge the whole way.

My water filters took a hit from cold weather. Both a sandstone filter and carbon filter had their housings break. Both right on the bottom. Both housings made of plastic. And of course located on the wrong side of the house insulation. Already taken out of circuit. Will have to order some new ones though.
