So I have a pumpkin ale going and with all the **** that went into it I figured it might be good to do a secondary to help clear it after the primary.
Bought a better bottle and racked that muthafunka.
Its pretty cool being able to see the beer after only using buckets. :D
The only thing that sucks is that after leaving behind all the sludge I only ended up with 4 gallons. :(

I just did a pumpkin ale as well, and it's the same deal for me. I added 90 oz of pumpkin puree to the boil for the last 20 minutes. I just dumped the straight in. When I went to pour into my primary I attempted to strain off what I could, but it proved to be a pain in the ass. I had to keep cleaning off my strainer and dumping a little at a time until finally I gave up and just tried to carefully pour it in.

I transferred the wort to my secondary and I too was left with around 4 gallons, and it's still cloudy as hell. I'm hoping it clears up. How is yours looking so far?

I just did a pumpkin aswell. I steeped 60oz of libbys pumpkin pie filling with the grain. Used one of those 5 gallon paint strainers from home depot and i got all 5 gallons.

Its in bottles right now should be ready in a few weeks.

I'll take some pics tonight, I havent really checked it since I racked it yesterday morning.

Same here. I brewed an AHS Pumpkin Ale kit, added 3lbs of Libby's, and was left with about 4 gallons.

Mine is cloudy as well, but its ok, Its just the starches from the pumpkin I believe. I think it adds character to the beer and you can tell people its hazy from the pumpkin. :fro:

No real need to secondary the beer. Let the fermentables from the pumpkin go and let the beer clear on its own. Just let it sit for a while before bottling/kegging.

If you can, crash cool it, but if not, its no big deal. Hope it turns out great.

My pumpkin ale is also very hazy. I added some to the mash and some to the end of the boil. I used the same amount of irish moss that I normally use and even successfully whirl-pooled and racked off the hot break and vege for the first time. I'm entering it into a comp in a couple of days. I was very worried about point deduction till someone pointed out how little amount of points are given to appearance.

I'm thinking the only way to get a really clear pumpkin ale, given the amount of starches, is to use a filtering setup. I'll stick with the hazy, delicious beer for now.
