This thread introduced me to Scott H. Briam. So much win.

Any other recommendations along the lines of Scott?

Cheers Dan,

Just had a check on Spotify and it is rife with his stuff. Any other artists I should be looking up?

Like Scott Biram? I don't know. Just learned of him on this thread as well. But if you are also in to Blues, can't go wrong with Muddy Waters! Here's one of his famous classics.

A couple of 70's classics that I when I hear them I can't help but listen (and get a good laugh)

Jamey Johnson- one of the best of the newer artists

I humbly say this is one of your finest posts CW. You have posted many very good ones, this to me just hits a spot. The first two songs above are a bit nostalgic for me. The song sung by Jamey Johnson came out a few years ago, to me it was an instant classic.

Great job CW! :mug: Thank you!

I lived in Nashville in the mid 90's and used to go to the dance clubs (cheap beer) and some nights we used to request this song over and over until it played- it became a battle of wills some beer soaked nights, ending either with hearing the song or hearing an announcement for security- ah, the good old days!

A county Boy Can Survive, lyrics

The preacher man says it’s the end of time
And the Mississippi River she’s a goin’ dry
The interest is up and the Stock Markets down
And you only get mugged
If you go down town

I live back in the woods, you see
A woman and the kids, and the dogs and me
I got a shotgun rifle and a 4-wheel drive
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I can plow a field all day long
I can catch catfish from dusk till dawn
We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too
Ain’t too many things these ole boys can’t do
We grow good ole tomatoes and homemade wine
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Because you can’t starve us out
And you cant makes us run
Cuz we're them old boys raised on shotgun
And we say grace and we say Ma’am
And if you ain’t into that we don’t give a damn

We came from the West Virginia coalmines
And the Rocky Mountains and the and the western skies
And we can skin a buck; we can run a trout line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I had a good friend in New York City
He never called me by my name, just hillbilly
My grandpa taught me how to live off the land
And his taught him to be a businessman
He used to send me pictures of the Broadway nights
And I’d send him some homemade wine

But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife
For 43 dollars my friend lost his life
Id love to spit some beechnut in that dudes eyes
And shoot him with my old 45
Cause a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Cause you can’t starve us out and you can’t make us run
Cuz we're them old boys raised on shotgun
And we say grace and we say Ma’am
And if you ain’t into that we don’t give a damn

We’re from North California and south Alabam
And little towns all around this land
And we can skin a buck; we can run a trot-line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Love this song and to be quite honest makes tears fall from my eyes.

Right now I am loving Zac Brown, Chris Young, and my all time favorite is George Strait. Also a big Marty Robbins fan. Love me some country music!!!

A week from tomorrow will be Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, it is a day of remembrance for those who have died and served in our nation's service. I will try to post a song each night this week about the men and women who's familys' serve our country. Some of them made the ultimate sacrifice.

I don't think anybody is naive enough to believe those sacrifices are small, not in any way.

If you know of a song, or find one, please post here.

In Flanders Fields
John McCrae, 1915.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

I've posted this next one a few times on this thread. But prior post, Flander's Field, mentioned in this song reminded me of this song sung by Johnny Cash. Just about my favorite song from JC.

I've been looking up songs to play each night this week. Have a few good ones, some, most I'd never heard before. I'm speaking on my understanding of the great USA. The songs will be steered towards the USA. I don't apologize for that but do ask anybody outside the US, with the same beliefs.. please post.

I know that you're posting mainly US-focused, and rightly so; it's your country. It's kind of funny though the first thing you post is In Flanders Fields. John McCrae was a Canadian soldier during WWI, so perhaps you're more international than you realize.

Equally strange, we have only Remembrance day (Armistice day elsewhere) on Nov. 11. What I can't figure out is why Canada hasn't recognized it as a national holiday. We have today off for Queen Vic, but we don't take a day for the soldiers....
