I just tried this one and it is the best yet. Not sweet and slightly hoppy tast and aroma. I wish it was available more than just a part of the year.

These Mr Beer extract kits make some pretty darn good tasting beer.

I also decided to try this one. I only added 1/4 lb. carapils for body and head retension. I fermented for 4 weeks giving it a D rest for 3 days and then back to lager. Bottled and conditioned at 48 for 4 weeks and had one this week.
I have to say, I'm a hoppy, malty type of beer guy and don't even buy Pilsner's but I was pleasantly surprised. I actually made this for grass cutting. Even the wife enjoyed it. I'm going to keep some for another 4 weeks at lager temps then drink 'em down.

A good idea with the yard cutting. I'm very fond of my yard beers. They are the best.

I'm gonna double up on this one next year and keg it.

that was going to be brew number 5 for me but 3 issues happened with that:

1) with shipping to canada that kit costs about $50
2) It doesnt have saaz hops, which in my mind makes it just a premium type lager.
3) I discovered a near by online retailer that carries grains and was able to get ingredients for 3 partial mash beers for about $60

i made 3 of my first 4 beers based around a mr beer nut brown ale and 2 wcpa. i have been very pleased with all of them. all have rivaled the more macro of canadian craft brews (ie Sleeman, Rickards, Ok Springs). But i have now grown beyond canned extracts. Next 4 will be partial mashes. Then all grain malt extracts are to expensive and limiting to me.

Yeah, some day I'll grow up too and do grains. At present I barely have time to go to the toilet, much less mash grain and brew all day. Some day though.

Whats up with saaz hops? What is it that makes them so much better. Just curious as I don't know too much about pilzners.

At present my uneducated palate likes pretty much any beer that isn't too sweet, isn't too thick and has some hop flavor and smell. Beers like food, there's not too much I won't eat, although I am pretty picky about my coffee.

a true czech pilsner as brewed in pilsen only uses pilsen malt and nobel saaz hops, its what we often call a SMaSH

some consider the saaz hop to be the nobelist of hops. it has a wonderful spicy earthy aroma that reminds me more of well cured cannabis (the indica strains, sativas are more like american hops) then of hops. saaz is probably my favorite hop

edit: they are only considered nobel saaz if they are grown in the hop producing regions of czechoslovakia
