When would it be a good time to consider moving from 1 to 5 gal batches? I'm still trying to find a recipe that suits me so I'm not in a rush to jump up in size that soon. One of my concerns is that I feel like I am going to start collecting a lot of 1 gal carboys in the near future. I only have two now, but can easily see that jumping up to the 5 range.

I'm trying my best to find a recipe to mimick Crispin The Saint and the old Strongbow that was nice and dry. If anyone has recipe suggestions, please let me know.

I ended up with 5 glass 1 gallon carboys before I made the jump to a single 5 gallon.
it worked out well because after I racked from primary I could fill all 5 of my 1 gallons and have enough room left to add concentrate, cinnamon or whatever.

Move up when you're satisfied that you have a process that works. Recipes will come and go, but you should have a process that yields consistently good cider.

I started with 1 gallon jugs, then moved up to a 3 gallon plastic one, then to a 5 gallon bucket. With the 3 gallon carboy, 3 1 gallon jugs and a 1/2 gallon I have the ability to rack up to 6 gallons to secondary.
