Has anyone tried using a stainless dry hop tube for a hop stand and then transferring the tube to your FV prior to racking the wort? Maybe all the goods have been extracted from the hops at that point. I have no idea.

Hop stand/whirlpools definitely take all the aromatic compounds out, at least so much that it would be diminishing returns to use them on the cold side. You'd get more grassy notes than anything else. Now, there HAS been some experimentation done with using dry hops in the boil since there would be alpha acids left that could be isomerized, but I don't remember where I saw it. Hops are pretty cheap in the grand scheme though and working with unknowns seems to be a waste of time.

Right along the same lines as using bagged mash hops in the boil but probably less messy and no time pressure/planning to use them.
