hey all,
my room mate has come back from NZ raving about this beer. We're thinking about trying to brew a clone or something in the ballpark.

here's the link: http://www.monteiths.com/nz/siteFiles/showroom/summer.html

that has a suprising amount of info, but I can't decide if the beer is actually spiced or if it's spiced with the hops as you could read it....

here's what one reviewer says....

"An outstanding seasonal beer, this is brewed using four malts, spiced with one hop, and has just a little Rata honey added to it. The taste is light and spicy, with distinctly gingery notes. Any sweetness gives way to a savoury, bitter tang and though it's light, it still has a complex taste. Ranks with the finest summer ales."

Anybody had some experience with this? Anybody suggest something that would put us in the ballpark?

thanks in advance
Stu

Ahh Monteith's. Went to NZ on our honeymoon. Didnt try the Summer (it was winter there), but took a tour of the brewery. The lady who showed us around told us that Montieths is available at some Trader Joe's. I believe only on the west coast though. They sure dont have any here in Ohio!

Well, a bit more research quotes

4 malts
1 'fruity' hop (amarillo perhaps?)
spices (All I've heard is Ginger, maybee cloves).

Anybody got any more leads?

Cheers
Stu
