yea thats right.. I sure got'em big old gnarley mold spore in the air lock. when I took the lid off the secondary there they were about two dozen of those fuzzy buggers looking drunknly back at me. so i guess next time it's vodka for the air lock and my self.

so my question is hot water and oxyclean then sanitzer going to be enough, and also should I do that now even if I'm not going to brew for a few weeks?

thanks for the help

CHEERS!!!!

Yes hot water and oxyclean will clean it up, rub it down good. Was this sanitized water? I've had mold on the outside of my fermenter but never in the airlock...

CHEERS!!!!

It's a buck 50 for a new airlock in these parts. Get a new one next time your at the shop if your concerned about it but I personally would soak in PBW and drink a brew.

I have never had the slightest need for vodka, sanitizer or anything else in my airlock... Just plain tap water. No problems. I guess it depends on how clean the water is.

Only time I've ever gotten mold in an airlock was on this last batch. Airlock shot off while I was at work one day and I got SWMBO to fill it with vodka and replace it. Had a little mold spot on it but didn't affect the beer at all.

I usualy just sanitize and use tap water in the air lock.
Now I am going to use vodka just to be sure.
I've been brewing a few years now and this is the first time I've had a problem. Oh well either way the beer is going into the keg today.
