This is my first attempt at making Kombucha and there is a brown formation at the top that has me a bit nervous. It has been going for about a week. I fear it is mold, based on what you can see in these pictures- do you think this batch is ruined?

Yeast chains, you'll get used to them. You can strain through a kitchen mesh strainer to catch most of them when harvesting.
 
Yep, that definitely looks like yeast to me. Maybe it doesn't look very appetizing, but they're pretty harmless...
 
wow, thank you. This is a major relief. I appreciate you looking at this and weighing in before I did something drastic!
