Hi all, this is my first post (lots of stalking the boards). I just finished my first kegerator build. I used a old mini fridge we had laying around (wanted to spend the $ on a freezer, just couldnt right now). Anyway, I was able to fit the 1/6th barrel keg (soon to be corny keg) (see pics below). This fridge will barely close and I had to use a window sash lock to keep it closed (the hump on this guy is huge). I have a couple of questions. I did not bend the freezer down as the keg height fits (using a low profile coupler right now). My beer lines at the top of the keg gets frozen beer because it is so close the freezer (I assume). Can I just use some kind of insulatation around this portion of the lines to prevent freezing or should I bend the freezer? Also, I would like to fit another keg but I think I will have to build a collar. Not sure if it is worth the trouble or If I should just wait until I can find a freezer to convert. Thank you in advance for your advice.

Hi

There are insulation types you can use on the beer lines. Figure a couple hundred dollars plus the price of fittings on the ends. Put another way - no there's no easy way to insulate the lines. Fans, insulation, ducts might work in combination with each other. There's not a lot of room for stuff in there though.

I'd spend some time on Craig's List looking for a "haul it away I don't want it" freezer or fridge. It might take a couple of months of looking, but they are out there.

The other alternative is to skip eating out once a week and pile up enough money to spend $40 or so on one. That will make your search time a *lot* shorter.
