Just had a thought the other day as I was milling around at the local distributor. Microstar is already picking kegs up from distributors all the time. I can see no reason why they couldn't be dropping off cleaned/sanitized empty sixtels as well. It could be another channel of revenue for them and the local home brewers could just pick them up there and pay the distributor directly. It seems like logistically they already have most of the operation in place it would just be a matter of sorting out the economics of it and pricing.

As long as it wasn't cost prohibitive I'd gladly switch to Sankes if could trade out my old empties for cleaned sanitized kegs at the distributor. They could price it similar to netflix or something, trade as often as you want and pay a monthly fee for the number of kegs you are allowed to have out at any given time.

Sanitizing the top for filling would be easy enough, just a quick wipe and a spray of starsan and you're good to go. I'm sure they probably arrive to breweries ready to go...

Thoughts?

I like it!! I would imagine that if not for the drop off of Cornelius kegs by Coke and Pepsi that this would already be into effect.

I would probably consider it. Although I think it would be better if deposits on commercial kegs were greater (hence not making sense to scrap/steal), and you paid a per keg fee.
