Hi all, I have a 3 keg brewery and have been wanting to have a motorized stir paddle for the mash tun . I have now come up with a right angle drive dc motor so all I need is to find the correct power supply (that means cheap ). When I direct fire the mash to raise temps it is of course much warmer on the bottom and stirring by hand does not seem to even out the temps much. I hope by constant stirring that it will eliminate any hot / cold spots and maybe help out with the efficiency even , any thoughts on it like r.p.m. , stupid idea etc.

There are plenty of commercial breweries that have motorized augers in their mash tuns.
Quite a few homebrewers as well.
I don't think it's crazy - I think it makes some sense (especially for doughing in).

"Slow" would seem obvious - you're not blending smoothies here, just trying to even out the temperature.
10-20 rpm would likely work pretty well...

Cheers!

Look for someone getting a new bbq grill and disposing of an old one with a spit. Rotisserie motors have sufficient torque and are slow.
That my man ,is an awesome idea ! no power supply needed and can take the heat.
