I batch sparge using BeerSmith software. It says to use 4.11 gallons of 168* water. This of course will heat up the mash quite a bit but I had it in my head that I was supposed to heat it up to 168*. I suspect it doesn't matter much but what do you do?

i mashed at 152 and heated up my sparge water today to 200 degrees which brought it to 171. this was only my 2nd all grain batch so i could be wrong. but it felt so right

I tossed around some ideas to do a mash out without infusion or exterior heating, ended up not giving a ****.

I sparge with water at about 180, 80% efficiency without sticking the sparge, so again I stopped caring, lol
