I have a rookie question. I recently completed my first ag brew but realized after I was supposed to mash out for a lot longer than I did. I did it for 30 minutes compared to the 45-50 minutes the recipe called for. So really what I'm getting at is how much worse will my brew be from that? I also noticed that fermentation wasn't as active. Thoughts?

You don't really have to mash out- but I assume you're saying that your sparge went fast, in about 30 minutes?

Generally, the slower the sparge the more sugars you'll extract due to the property of diffusion. If your OG reading was where it should be, the quick sparge had no effect. If your OG reading as a bit low, it could be due to a quick sparge.

I hope that is helpful, as it's hard to guess what the OG is and what the efficiency actually is.

It was a bit lower but not way off so hopefully it's ok. Yes, I'm still learning the proper terms. Thank you.
