Well thanks to wilserbrewer's Bags, I am now in deep with BIAB. My last two brews have been cake walks with only minor mishaps (all on my lack of experience and still working out the kinks to equipment)

Thank again to all you guys and all the info you provided it really helped streamline the transition! :tank:

Good luck man! It was really a lot easier then I thought it would be and went super smooth for me! I hope the same for you.

Today's the day. Got my first BIAB going. In between hops additions right now. The only problem with this batch (and it's a big one) is, I broke my hydrometer before the boil. The cap fell off and it just fell right out and shattered on the floor. Ugh. If it tastes good in a few weeks, I'll brew it again (brown IPA) with readings.

Used my old "Chicago winter" coat to keep temp. I lost a total of 2 degrees in a 60 minute mash.

Boil has begun so it's time to open one from the last batch.

I'm glad you were able to get things to work, and I don't want you to take this as too much criticism, but I wonder what your insurance company would say to your draping a flammable coat over a gas stove.

I saw that and I just cringed.

Yeah, maybe I'll remove from stove first next time. We don't have a pilot light so there's no danger of fire. I've seen dozens of videos on BIAB and not one person removes the kettle from the burner, so it never even occurred to me. Don't tell my wife. :)

I use a mover's blanket, but my bro-in-law bought a small flame retardant welder's blanket at HF for cheap using a 20% off coupon. That would work.

Someone suggested the oven for me and it works amazingly. Your kettle looks to be the same size as mine, would it fit?
