Hello everyone!

I brewed a couple of batches from a wort kit back when I was in university, mostly to consume the most amount of beer for the cheapest price possible!

I'm a couple of years on now, and looking to do it for real this time. I'd like to learn a bit about the science and process in doing it from grain instead of the tins of pre-made wort I used back in uni. If anyone has any tips I'd be deeply appreciative! I'll be making a post over in the new brewers forum shortly with some questions about getting a kit to start with, had some trouble with airlocks and keeping my fermenter at a constant temperature, generally stuff like that!

A little bit about me for those still listening! I live in the grand green city of Bristol UK, and work at screen printing studio out in the country, but also looking to volunteer to do backbreaking work at a local brewary on the weekends, to help me understand the processes both practically and from a commercial point of view. I'm also big into my video games, comics and of course, beer.

Nice to meet you, and I will see you in the forum!

Welcome to the forums, I'm sure you'll find all the info you need around here. Of course, I think the first tip any of us might recommend is grabbing a copy of Papazian's "Complete Joy of Homebrewing"

Once again, welcome and Prost!

I have just ordered! Was going for cheap on amazon, and the graphic design swayed me :D

If you want to jump into AG, go for it, but since you haven't brewed in a while, and you were using tinned (and I am guessing that mean pre-hopped) extract, I'd say maybe jump in with a few batches of extract with hop boils (no pre-hopped stuff!) to get the processes down. But it's no real loss if you don't do extract at all, as AG just takes a little longer.

Those tinned extract kits sure do make for a quick brew-day, though, don't they? Of course, you pay extra money for that, and often pay in less-than-stellar beer, although the quality of a lot of kits have improved in the past few years.

Welcome to the community and back to the obsession from CT, USA! I would also watch YouTube videos on homebrew in as well as read as much as possible from this forum!
