I'm starting a new thread regarding this issue so I can get a few opinions.

I got a White Labs liquid yeast vial and want to make a starter with the LME that came with my extract kit. If I'm making a 5 gallon batch what does my ration of LME to water need to be?

Will one quart of water and 1 cup of LME do the trick?

One cup of LME might be a bit much. Add a bit more water + a touch more water to account for the evaporation, and things should be fine. The OG of your 'wort' should be about 1.040, so use your hydrometer or refractometer to make sure.

Up here in Canadia (where homerewers use a strange hybrid of metric, Imperial and US measurements), I use 100 g of DME (which is 1.2 times 'stronger' than LME) per litre of water. Ends up at about 1.040, as long as I add a touch more water to account for the boil off.

Probably being fussy, but that's the way I do it. :mug:
