Only on my second batch and have a question. On my first extract kit it was a little difficult to get all the LME out of the half gallon jug. Would it make sense to put it in a pan of warm water to soften it up, or will it affect it.

That is a really good idea. I also used to put hot wort into the can to rinse the last bits out.

DME is a better way to go. It is dry, so it all comes out, and it is more concentrated and less expensive.

DME is cheaper? I know you need to use a bit less DME compared to LME, but it looks a lot more expensive on Austin Home Brew and other places I've looked. Does it make a bigger difference if you buy in bulk?

Even accounting for using less (around 20%), DME is usually more expensive. Of course, it also stores longer, is easier to work with, and is less wasteful when you need less than a full jugs worth.

At my lhbs it is, that's all I know. I am an immediate gratification kind of person, I like to buy it on my way home and brew it then and there! Buggar shipping.;)
