Is this Normal ? do i have to do anything ?? any help would be great .. thanks guys/gal in advance ..:rockin:

you are about to make a big mess when the airlock blows off the carboy. you need to switch to a blowoff tube. get a length of poly hose that will fit over the inside pipe on the airlock (the one the little thimble thing goes over). put the hose into a pitcher with some water and sanitizer in it so it bubbles up through the solution.

like this....

ive never actually had a blow-off, but that looks like a standard eruption to me. just replace the airlock with a blowoff tube, leading to a bowl (anything that can hold liquid) of sanitizer.

that is a 6gal carboy , i don't think they come any bigger do they ?? how Big is the tubbing do i need ?? is it safe to take the airlock with me to found out ?? thanks for all the help guys ..

You generally want more head space than that in a carboy. Most "primary" carboys are 6.5-7 Gallons to allow for 5-5.5G in carboy with plenty of head space. Even then you will need a blow off tube with certain beers. Just add a blowoff tube as instructed above and you will be perfectly fine.

Take it out. With that kraeusen and CO2 coming out of the carboy, no bacteria with go in it. As someone else said here, bacteria aren't ninjas. If you still worry, RDWHAB, remove the airlock and use a sanitized aluminum foil and wrap it loosely around the neck of your carboy. Then take the airlock to figure out the diameter of tubing you need.

what do you mean ? i am kind of new to this .. it's my 1st batch :)

Just to specify, usually a batch of beer is 5-5.5 gallons. Most primary fermenters would be several gallons larger than that to accommodate all the krausen (that's foaming out of your carboy). As revIP said, sometimes even that isn't enough.

if you are using the airlock to make a blow off I would advise cutting a little off the part that goes into the stopper it will plug up most times if you don't .

Cut it here
