Has anyone ever used a stainless steel liquid oxygen tank to make a brew kettle? I have a chance to get some 98 gallon cyrogenic tanks cheap. The inner vessel is 304 stainless and approximatly 22.5 inches in diameter and 8 feet long. Anyone with experience out there

It's good metal, the hardest part will be the disassembly. Removal of the insulation, outter vessel, and any support bits on the outside of the inner vessel. At 8' it's a bit tall but you can easily cut that down, the wide base may be a good thing for heat transfer. Is it on a wheeled platform? What kind of price are you getting? Can you post a pic?

I think i can get these tanks for like $50 bucks each. I have all the tools at my disposal from a plasma cutter to TIG and gasses as well as an enormouse amount of time. I can cut them to any size I want, im thinking around 60 - 70 gallon. I hope to make a custom rig that suits my brewing style. I'm interested in any suggestions. I have a pump, 10 square feet of 20 mesh ss and 10 square feet of 80 mesh ss, a pile of .5 inch fittings,10 feet of .5 inch silicone hose, a bunch of ss valves and 50 feet of 1.5 inch angle iron. I guess i just have to figure out how to get it all together.

Sounds to me like you would have almost everything you'll need to build a kick ass system. If you get the tanks, post some pics!!

if you leave the double wall on, you could go electric, and use the insulation for your benefit.

If you're going to cut/drill the tanks, keep in mind there may be a vacuum drawn between the walls.

I hadn't thought of that. Seems all electric would give me a lot of control. I wonder how far i could go with this? I dont know anything about heating elements etc. I do have 2 Siemens logo plc's in a box. Has anyone ever incorporated something like this in their brewing? I wouldn't want to get too automatic though, it might take all the fun out of it.

Yes, i have to be careful. Shockerengr pointed out there is an opportunity to make it all electric. Choices choices.
