I brewed a five gal Stone IPA clone the other day and wound up with left over hops. I typically buy ingredients from a place that sells you only what you need nothing more, nothing less. This recipe I got from a new place and now have some hops left over.

.50 oz US Magnum
.36 oz Perle

I was going to dictate my next beer by what I have left over.

Is there a recipe generator I can use entering only these two ingredients???

Any suggestions??

Thanks,
J.

I have a special place in my freezer for small quantities of leftover hops like that. About once a year I'll see what I have and make an 'anything goes' beer with whatever left over ingredients I have. They're always different - sometimes wonderful.

If you use those as bittering hops at 60 minutes you could get away with using them for just about any beer you can think of...

You could use a free online recipe calculator like http://www.brewersfriend.com/ when building recipes to determine approximate IBUs, but I don't think there's any tool where you type in a couple of ingredients and it spits out recipe ideas for you. That's up to you man! That's the fun of this hobby!

Right on. Thank you sir.

Ive been looking on brewersfriend all night for something that stands out. that is typically where my recipes come from. I was just hoping to find a recipe that would utilize the exact weight i already have plus some extra of another hop.

How long are my hops going to last in the fridge? The bags have been opened but sealed and put away since Monday night.

Ideally, use them as quickly as you can. Within a few weeks if possible. That being said, I once found 4oz of Willamette in the back of my freezer that was more than 2 years old and used them for bittering in pinch. I would never PLAN to use 2 year old hops but the beer was great.

Magnus is a derivative of German noble hops...Tettenanger maybe... and Perle is a noble hop so why not try something from the Fatherland? A kolsch, or even a dunkelweizen, would fit. Grab some Pilsner malt or extract and bitter with the Magnum, then throw the Perle in at a half hour or less. Pitch a yeast of your choice that fits the style you're emulating. Kyle

Hops stored in air tight containers or in food saver type packaging and frozen will last much longer than 2 weeks. I buy pounds at a time and freeze them.

I couldn't agree with you more, and often do the same thing. But seeing as the OP seems relatively new to the hobby, I went ahead an assumed that a vacuum sealer isn't an option at this point. Assuming that's the case, using them sooner rather than later is probably for the best.

Cool thanks guys. I am pretty new but have brewed a couple handfuls of batches in the last 7 months. Like I posted in the first post i usually buy only the ingredients i need, nothing more nothing less. Bought from a new place this time and have left over hops. Was hoping i could find even like a 2gal recipe to burn up those extra hops before i begin another.

I do have a foodsaver, but i think those hops will be boiled by the weeks end.

I just brewed a "hodge podge" last week, my first, I used spent(wooky jack clone) grains to mash out 2 gallons threw in some DME, magnum, half hour later some nugget and and at flame out the last chinook . just racked it to a keg yesterday first tasting it was horrible so I will let it sit in keg a while, hell its beer and my other keg just spit on me so I will be drinking it im sure!! lol

Just got hooked up with a good simple 5.25 gal "American Stout" recipe. .50 oz Mag. .36oz Perle. Can post it if anyone wants it. Let me know.

Thanks for the posts guys, much appreciated. Brew on.
