Hi Y'all,

I've brewed a couple one gallon batches using the Brooklyn Brew shop kits. They turned out pretty well.

I decided to do a little more for 1 gallon wasn't enough for me. I brewed my first 5 gallon extract kit, an American Wheat last Saturday.

I was not seeing any activity in my airlock so I opened the lid and it was fermenting away just fine and gravity was dropping. I assume I have an air leak in the lid to my fermenter bucket.

Should I get it out of the bucket soon? It has been only 4 days or will the leak not matter?

The gas leak won't matter. It's probably just an incomplete seal along the rim. You would actually cause more potential problems by racking now than if you just leave it alone until fermentation is complete.
 
Thanks. I wasn't going to secondary it. Do you think it is ok to leave it for the full three weeks?

Right, don't worry. The nasties only go in one direction - down. Unless you have a fan or something blowing into the fermenter they can't go up inside the lid, over the lip of the bucket into the beer.

3 weeks is good. Just resist the urge to open the lid until you are ready to check for final gravity.

One of my bucket fermenters has never sealed properly (read: never had airlock activity). It has produced quite a few good beers and zero infections to date. As the others have said, don't worry about a slight leak. The beer will be fine.
