OK, anyone following the LA method of brewing has probably seen that I've referenced the chart on page 258 in Charlie P's TCJOHB book (3rd ed.). Per the chart you could reduce your boil in half and double up on the hops to get the same bitterness.

OK, I've done 2 LA experiments (using twice the hops and half the boil time) and I have to say that while it's true the bittering qualities are present the short boil time also adds hop flavor (to the batches I've made).

If you do not wish to (inadvertantly) add the hop flavor to your brew then I recommend sticking to the 1hour boil. :D ;)

What beers did you experiment with this on?

I think my friend did that with his Amarillo Pale Ale, and it was fantastic. Not sure it'd be useful in a low hop beer.

I am going to brew an APA this weekend with all cascade hops, adding all of them with 30-0 mins left in the boil...I want moderate bitterness with high hop flavor.

Is there any reason why I need to boil for the full 60 min? I do AG and usually boil to get the right volume/OG, but hopefully my efficiency will be better this time and I could do with boiling for 30-45min.

Your're right, that is important...I brewed 2 HWs. I prefer them on the sweet side, but now these are hop flavored.

For someone who prefers a flavor hop then I would recommend this method. :D

I think your additions would work. ;)
