I'm in the process of designing a new home and will be installing a kegerator in the basement bar. Will do a built-in unit and specifically would like to do black stainless steel, of which there are not many options. Does anyone have experience with the EdgeStar brand name? Curious about performance, noice, reliability, etc.
Thank you

If you are doing built in with bar mounted taps perhaps a home built unit using a chest freezer would be an option.

Yes I do.
I bought an EdgeStar dual tower kegerator 13 years ago.
It has been plugged in and running all that time and it has never given me any trouble at all.
The only thing that really needed to be done was changing out those the cheaper rear sealing taps with some forward sealing taps (Perlick or equivalent).

If you are designing the house/basement, can you just plan a space for a fridge on the other side of the back wall of the bar? Then just run and insulated pipe/beer lines through the wall and the fridge (or chest freezer). You will get as many taps as a kegerator and the fridge or freezer will probably last longer.

Just a thought.

Otherwise, I have a KegLand Series X and love it. 4-taps off a standard sized kegerator. Or 8 off a double-sized. But like most kegerators, I will be surprised if it lasts more than 5-7 years.

Williams Brewing is having a sale right now with free shipping (but ends tonight).......

Why do you say you'd be surprised your Kegland 5-7 years?

@OakIslandBrewery - Not a complaint specific to Kegland. I'm just estimating the average lifespan of kegerators in general. I believe fridge/freezers usually last longer.
Fair enough, just wondering if you had some specific experience. The Edge Star comments look promising. For what kegerators are going for these days I always wonder what their life cycle is. I have a beer, an older Kenmore that's at least 25 years old and it's still chilling just fine.

Thanks!
