I am having a welding shop convert my kegs basically because I know nothing about welding however I don't know what to ask for. I want one keg as a mash tun the other a boil kettle. I have heard that you should weld a 1/2 inch full coupler for use with a ball valve, dip tube, and false bottom. 1. Where should this coupler be welded. 2. Should the coupler be welded in the middle (so equal amounts on each side) or all on the outside.

If you have a drill, I would suggest reading the "soldering SS" thread that is a sticky at the top of the DIY page. You just might save yourself a ton of money.
Good luck.
