Hi everyone! Figured I'd be lurking in this forum a bit, so I thought I'd introduce myself. Here's my story:

So, over the summer my husband, a friend of ours, and I were talking about how fun it would be to start our own brewery, given the lack of a good microbrewery in our area. We'd never brewed before, but we are all fans of the "good" stuff. We even tossed around names for some beer, what our tasting room would look like. All the entrepreneurial stuff... But the idea was put on hold when we returned to reality and realized we have no $$$ to start a business yet :(

Come this fall, another friend of ours suggested we hold an Oktoberfest party and have a brew-off. We had been thinking too big!! We all have to start somewhere!! Of course, we were the first to jump in and get all the supplies - we're go-getters when it comes to doing fun stuff that we want to do. We had our beer done and nearly ready to bottle before any of our friends decided that things were serious, and that they had better get started, since the brew-off was their idea.

We went with a chocolate-espresso stout, which we have lovingly named after a man-eating grizzly bear. I'm sure someone will be offended by this, but lighten up! We make jokes like this only because we risk death by bears everyday (we work outside, in grizzly country). I love bears. Anyway, we've secretly sampled our beer already, and I'm thinking it'll take 1st :D (beginners' luck)! We find out this Sat!!

For our next batch, we are going to try a pumpkin-wheat. Wish us luck!! I'll be picking your brewing-brains soon!

Setting the bar HIGH right off the bat - I like it!

Where are you from? Besides just Grizzly country?

Hi Lovesdirt,
Me and my wife just bottled our first batch Tuesday and its in secondary as we speak. We started with a LME Lager though, not quite as ambitious as your stout, kinda wish we had now. LOL good luck this sat!

Welcome! :mug:
Sounds like you have jumped in with both feet. Good luck with your brewing adventures no matter where they take you.
My favorite beer comes from your neck of the woods. Moose Drool Brown Ale from Big Sky Brewing is the closest thing to perfection I've ever tasted. They just started distributing it down here in Colorado this year. We used to get people in Wyoming and Montana to bring it down for us.

Ah yes, I do frequent Big Sky when I'm around Missoula. Moose Drool - a classic! I'm also a fan of Scapegoat (pale) and their new IPA (it has pronghorn on the label!). Oh, and I love their winter ale - Powder Hound. That's actually what I'm sipping on as I type :tank:

I guess the Bayern brewery is in Missoula, too - but I haven't been there. There's a newer place up north in Polson - Glacier Brew. Their Oktoberfest is my fave (Glacier Select). They've only been open 3 years? 4?

Olllllo - never been through Victor - what's the name of the place there?

dcarter - enjoy the lager - i'm sure you'll have plenty of opportunity to be more adventurous! We were up against competition - had to reach higher. I'm a very competitve person :D

The Hamilton - A Public House
Has many English beers on tap as well as Scotch Ales, Guinness, Fish Frys etc.

Not bad for a town of 900.
