I just bought one for my home fridge that I keep some food in. Hardly any as I live by myself. So I was going to throw my carboy in there at set it in the low 60's. Think I can still keep any food in there lol..Also, I didn't even think that the sensor will turn off my freezer too :drunk:

60s stuff will grow, hence how we make beer. Yeasts grow. I don't think this is a safe idea. Food will spoil. Usually food in the fridge is between 35-45 (estimate) degrees F.

Will the regulator turn off the freezer section? If I can keep food in the freezer I am fine.

Yes, if you're just controlling power like normal, it will turn off the freezer as well. If you want to get in and mess with the wiring, it's usually possible to wire the controller directly into the refrigerator temp control, but you'd better know what you're doing before messing with line voltage.

What about if I turn the fridge section down all the way and the freezer up all the way.. So the freezer gets super cool and the fridge is turned off less often?

Refrigerated food should be kept between 34 and 40. If yours is at 45 then I'll thank you not to serve me the leftover potato salad. ;)

The temp zone between 40 and 140 is considered the danger zone and food should not be kept at those temps for longer than two hours.

All you can do is set it up that way, throw in a thermometer and see what it does. I don't think it's going to work though, as intermittently as it'll be running. It might be good to store fruits and veggies and whatnot though. Not so good for things like milk that can spoil.

If it's one that connects between the fridge & the wall, they look like they work by turning the fridge off & on, so I would expect the freezer to not stay frozen.

In the description it says it just turns off & on the fridge.... if you have room for one, id check craigslist or something similar for a cheap fridge or chest freezer to use for this

Could cause some serious temperature swings in the freezer. Freezer burn could become a real problem.

If I can get it to keep making ice then I could filll up coolers with ice made from there and keep food in the coolers.

Personally, I'd put the carboy in a bucket of water instead of everything I need to avoid starving to death.

I tried that and it just did not stay a constant temp. Have been having my beer taste funny due to fermenting at a variable temp..

Beer > Food amirite?
