Hi there,

I tried Irish moss for first time and I don't have very good experience. I added 1tbs 15min before boil finish, usually I do whirlpool and I get nice compact pile of hops and turb in middle, but now I get huge pile of hops and turb in half of the kettle (5 gallon) so I had to filter half of the batch, so I get really messy worth after that. What I done wrong? Only thing what I done unusually was, that I cooled batch (immersion chiller) before whirlpool and transfer of the worth. Thanks for advices

I'm not sure that the Irish Moss was the cause of your problem. I've never had that issue, so I'm thinking it might have been something else.

I don't know if the Irish Moss is the cause of your problem, but, unless yours is different the proper dose is one TEASPOON for 5 gallons.

I have gotten the best results when using Irish moss by letting the boil kettle sit undisturbed for at least an hour before pouring into the fermentor. Break material and hop debris are only in the last gallon or so to be poured. I pour through a fine mesh grain bag to get the maximum amount of boiled wort into the fermentor.

I use half Tablespoon at 15 minutes. Cool down, I always filter out hops. what Irish Moss does is coagulate the hops(gets them thicker), less finer particles go through the strainer.
