So I was shopping for some work clothes this past weekend and when I looked up on a shelf I saw some vases I thought could serve a greater purpose....

Should I steal them?

Thou shall not steal.?.? Maybe the store owner thinks your vehicle would serve a higher purpose.. ;)

NO. . . NO. . NO. . .but you could ask where the store got them from, and/or offer to buy them. . . They don't look to be selling much in the way of clothing.

Do you think they would look at me funny if I transferred some wort into them, pitched and put an airlock on? LOL

Of course it's not wrong. That's a dumb question. And I like that jacket, BTW. Pick one of those up for me when you go back for those vases.

See...I'm not crazy after all. Those vases were screaming out to me that they wanted some hoppy goodness in them.

And...picked myself up one of those jackets.

You might also consider that vases like those are sometimes coated with toxic chemical sprays to enhance color or clarity. If it's not food grade, don't brew in it.

this is like suggesting to steal the fern out of a dental office because they weren't doing anything with them...

But, they weren't....and my chitty magazine and mini tooth care supplies are way full. Besides, the fern looks soooo much better in my living room.

Don't steal. There's no reason to steal them when you can easily obtain those at a craft store no doubt.

Why steal them? Next time you go back, just bring your cooled wort, some yeast, and stopper with air lock. Transfer wort to vases, pitch yeast, install stopper.

Go back in 2 weeks and you have beer.

Sure. Go ahead. Stealing is always a great idea when you feel like going to jail and getting a$$ raped. So if that's you thing go for it. Every time I go in a store I look around and think hmmmm... What generic $2 piece of crap thing can I steal today.

Hopefully you caught the sarcasm, :smack:

Yes... I'm assuming everyone gets that I have no plans to actually steal vases from a clothing store. Sad day that I felt the need to clarify that point.. I can totally see this playing out as a television docu-drama called 'the beer-vase bandit'.

If I had to bet I'd say most people here missed the sarcasm in the OP

I've seen people post threads here and on other sites that go south real quick. It is usually the OP that mocks members for missing the sarcasm in the post. Lets be real here though, how sarcastic was the original post? Not very, by definition alone. I don't think anyone missed anything. I think a silly question was asked and answered. Perhaps the OP was joking, that may be a better way of putting it, but when he/she quoted someone who said to do it and responded with "so I'm not crazy"...I'm still thinking there was some sincerity behind the thought of stealing a vase for brewing purposes. ;) Even if you didn't really intend to do it, your post wasn't sarcastic and it isn't a sad day, promise. :)

If you're looking for this stuff though, Michael's craft store has them and they're dirt cheap. You should check it out all the same.

By reading all the posts everyone missed the sarcasm (including me). Maybe its because the world is full of savages and for some people that is rational thinking. Sarcasm is usually more obvious...at least to me.

My not so obvious attempt at humor went over like an infected batch!

My main point was how I now see things in a different light now that I am brewing my own beer. Perhaps next time I should be more clear with my tone of type.

Let me be clear...

I will not steal vases for home brewing.

I will not steal vases for home brewing.

I will not steal vases for home brewing!

I suppose this is why I think I'm funny but my wife not so much..

Anyway...tongue in cheek, foot in mouth, whatever it's called, I'm sure someone is using a vase like the ones I posted to ferment a great beer. :sarcasm:

:mug:

I completely understood the sarcasm, right off the bat. This whole thread brightened my day. I actually got a chuckle out of the trashcan.

There are these really nice computer monitors at my work, should I steal them? I could use them for HBT?

It might not be explicitly sarcastic, but I think someone taking the time to take a picture in a store and asking advise of others on whether they should do something extremely petty and illegal, implies sarcasm. Those who do these things are usually quite dishonest and secretive about their shameful behavior to the general public. And it an obvious joke about seeing everything in the world as some sort of tool to turn sugar into alcohol -- well maybe not so obvious.

Pfffttt. The store wasn't even using those vases! They were just languishing there on the shelf. I could hear them calling, "Make beer in me!

Do it!

Would it be okay if I stole the breakroom fridge to make a ferm chamber? It's just sitting there holding lunches.

It looks like this one, but ours is almost a year old.
