Hey BrewTalk! ...was wondering if anyone knew where to find 6lbs. of Ireks Weizenbier Extract (100% Wheat)? ...I guess it is no longer sold? ...if that is the case does anyone know of a good substitute? ...Thanks a bunch in advance!

Ireks went off the market maybe ten years ago. All the available wheat extracts are 40/60 50/50 or whatever blends of whear and barley. You could go all grain and mash 100% wheat but frankly it would make a very bland beer. There are reasons why wheat beers also contain a good amount of barley.

hmm alright sounds good... I'm attempting to buy the ingredients for the 'Berry Garcia' and am stuck on the '6lbs. of Ireks Weizenbier Extract' ...any recommendations for a substitute or anything? THANKS!!

Hi! I joined the site (finally) just to reply to this thread. I'm planning to make the same recipe. Did you find a good substitute over the last 6 years?

If nothing else, I'm going to use Briess Wheat Malt Extract (65/35) and just get all 9# in that instead of 6# 100% wheat and 3# light.

Thoughts? Experience?
