Ipa that ferments in mid 70s?

Can IPAs be fermented in the mid 70s? Or will that result in unwanted off flavors? I live in Florida , so keeping my wort cooled without a fridge is pretty difficult for me. And the swamp cooler in the bath tub method isn't very practical at home right now.
 
Short answer yes but you will get off flavors. You dont have to use the bathtub as your swamp cooler, any old container will work IE cooler, beer tub, garbage can wrapped in insulation
 
Glynn, do you know of any yeasts that do particularly well at this temp range?
 
Not for IPAs. Saisons sure. Most IPA yeasts will prefer to be below 75 at max, ideally mid 60s.

If I was going to buy a mini fridge to be able to keep the wort at that temperature, what size should I look for? Have any go to models?
 
I'm using my keezer as a fridge right now, so I don't have a go to model persay. Just measure your primary and add space for the airlock.

If you don't want to go that route yet, a simple swamp cooler does wonders. Just a rubbermaid bin or rope tub from Wal-Mart plus some water and frozen water bottles does wonders.
 
I'm also in Florida and my house regularly hits 83 with the A/C constantly running. It's a big, older house with tons of windows so it has a hard time keeping cool.

Before we purchased our 7.0 cu ft GE freezer for fermenting, we used a swamp cooler like what has been mentioned (a plastic storage tub filled with water), and I was able to keep our beers around ~66 during the initial days. I'd generally put in around 4 frozen 2-liter bottles of water before work, check it when I got home and either leave it or add more frozen water bottles and then add some more before we went to bed. It's a royal PITA but it is feasible.

I adore my converted freezer. It hold 2 6.5 gallon vessels on the bottom and a 2.5 gallon fermenter on the bump.
 
I have a 7 cu ft freezer and I can put 4 or 5 2 gallon HD buckets in it w/air locks. Gets hot here in Hawai`i too. Doing smaller batches will be easier to chill in the WalMart tub w/ice mentioned above.
 
just made a dreadnaught clone and fermented at ~72 (best i could do with my current setup). yeast was WLP013 (london ale). just bottled today, but i tasted a non-conditioned sample yesterday and i didn't get any off-flavors. also, tons of krausen. the yeast was very active from about hours 18-40.
