Wanting to brew my first IPA, so of course I started looking up some recipes from my favorites to get a good idea of what I want.

After some talking with SWMBO as well as some friends I decided that terrapin's Hi-5 is a common ground we all share as a good, easy to drink IPA that is appreciated by the snob and hop head crowd, as well as approachable by some of the not so hop-friendly.

I found this recipe for a clone but it doesnt have any hop amounts.

I also need to do an extract version.

I would really appreciate any help yall could offer.

I'm not really looking for a perfect match. Just something in the ballpark that will be good.

Head brewer at Terrapin Brewing Co. sent me an email with this info

I've not had the beer, certainly sounds like a hop bomb for that gravity. Playing around in Beersmith here's something to get you started. If that is carapils I would just leave it out as the extract likely has a little. Also left out the mash/first wort hops since you're not mashing. This is for a full boil aiming for 5.25 gal post boil - do you have a big enough pot? Topping off is going to be an issue with a beer this bitter. I just used defaults for all the actual AA's, Beersmith calculates this as 95 IBU but that's counting on 24 IBU from the steep/whirlpool. I think that is hard to calculate and IME always overestimates the perceived bitterness at least. It's about 70 IBU without adding that in, they have 80 IBU listed on the website so I think it's in range.

Do they have a house yeast or what do you plan to use? This needs to finish around 1.011 to hit your ABV.

Cool. Thanks for the help!

I do have a 10g pot so I do full boils.

Just to be clear. A Steep/Whirlpool is pretty much just added while chilling the wort, right?

Usually referring to letting it stand at various temps before fully chilling, hotter than about 170 you still get some bitterness. Here's an article that explains a bit more : hop stands.
