Anybody have any good malt bills for an IPA that don't involve any crystal? Just looking for something a little different but that will still result in a nice, dry IPA.

Check out the Firestone Walker Union Jack recipe, uses a small amount if simpsons 37L crystal that is ommitted from their Pale Ale grist. They basically use something like 80% 2 row, 15% munich and 5% carapils. Ive used their ipa grist with fantastic results in conjunction with WLP002 which is similar to their house strain. You can really dry it out with their mash profile. I dont have a link handy on my cell or Id add one.

Is this it?

"Union Jack" IPA (Clone)
13 lbs US 2-row
2 lbs light Munich (8-10L)
12 oz Briess Carapils
4 oz Simpson's Caramalt 30/37

My DFH 60 minute clone is 13 pounds US two-row and 6 ounces amber malt. I prefer the Thomas Fawcett amber malt, but I have used Crisp as well.

I like that grainbill. It's light in color, not the least bit caramelly or sweet, but "warm" and clean.

I guess you're just asking for a basic grist of what would work?...

80-88% 2 row pale
8-12% wheat or light munich
4-8% corn sugar or honey

Yeah, I've just done a bunch of base/pale malt plus a bit of different crystal over and over and would like to mix it up a bit. I've seen the Munich in a couple of recipes but not the amber - both sounds worth a shot. Thanks

Any other suggestions welcome.

1 tsp Irish moss
Wyeast 1968 or WLP002
Single infusion at 159 deg F for 60 min.
Boil 90 min.
Ferment at 68 deg F.

No crystal, but with a 159 mash temp, it'll be the sweet and chewy DIPA that always blows my mind.

Just an update...

Turned out really well. The munich and MO gave some nice grainy notes but little sweetness. Definitely a grain bill worth repeating.
