Hello everyone,

I am a newbie, still using the kits to brew. I brewed 2x5 gallons last night, one using an IPA kit from tin and one using the tea bag technology. I was wondering which types of hops you would use for dry hopping. I have bishop UK hops, wakanutz NZ and columbus US. I have used a mixture of all of them during the boiling process, however I am not sure which one would give me the best aroma during dry hopping? Should I use 3oz of columbus for the one bucket and bishop or wakanutz for the other one? Any suggestions are very welcome! Also, is it OK add them in the primary fermentor after the bubbles are finished? Or should I transfer it to a secondary and add the hops in there for 3-4 days. Cheers

Cheers

One silly question; I added the hop bags (which I used while boiling) in the fermentors and then added the yeast and stirred, do you think I will have any negative results by doing this? Does adding those bags before the fermentation (basically the fermentation didn't start yet) affect the beer and how? Should I remove them and add fresh hops in 4 - 5 days when fermentation is finished? I like hoppy taste so I am not bothered if I overdo it, however I don't want to affect the yeast( i.e. I am not sure if it could kill the yeast and don't produce any alcohol). Thanks

You'd want to dry hop after about a week when the yeasties are all done. All the CO2 that they give off will carry away the hop aroma if you dry hop at pitching. If you keg you can put them in there too.

Of your three hops I've only used Columbus but i'm a fan of the C-hops (being in southern california and all).

Thanks for your reply. Since the bag of the boiled hops is already in the FV and the beer is bubbling then I will leave it inside till the fermentation finishes and then I will add more fresh hops. Columbus aroma is addictive, I think I ll do both with columbus, but I am worrying the beer will get drank too quick when is ready:)

Thanks again!
