IPA bottling?

Hey I’ve started my very first batch of beer; it’s an IPA. I pitched the yeast last Thursday the 25th Sep.

When I made the wort I neglected to take a hydrometer reading (oops) & I just put the lid on and let the pressure lock do the work.

Well the pressure lock has been bubbling for the last 5 days it’s slowing down now and I wonder how soon should I bottle this batch I really don’t have enough bottles stock piled yet.

I wonder if I could leave it in the primary for another 7 to 14 days until I get more bottles stock piled I figure if I just drink 3 or 4 beers a night for the next week I might have enough empty bottles to do the whole batch.

Not only can you wait another 7-14 days, your beer will be better for it. Take your time.

You can leave it in Primary for a VERY long time. Many times it will be beneficial.

As long as you are not approaching the 3 month mark, there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Even then, it would probably be fine. I usually Primary for 2 weeks, then keg/bottle. Only time it is different is if I am dry-hopping or aging on fruit, etc.

Your last plan is a good one. I bottled my very first batch after 1 week in primary and it didn't taste so good, it is much improved by leaving for 2-3 weeks so:

RDWHACB (with a reusable bottle of course)

And don't trust the airlock to to tell you when it's done. I wouldn't even bother taking a hydro reading in less than 10 days, or right before you plan to rack or bottle it.
