Has anyone seen or built an interchangeable propane/electric kettle? Not going to list the reasons why I'd want this ridiculous contraption, just curious if it's been done?

Questions:

#1: Wouldn't the modification to a kettle be as simple as welding a TC fitting to the kettle wall? The heating element could be easily attached and removed that way, using an NPS to TC adapter. The fitting could then be capped off for propane brewing.

2#: Is there a good resource/schematic for building a simple controller for a single vessel? The kettle would double as an HLT so the ability to set a strike temp with automatic cut-off would be a plus. This may be cost-prohibitive so, at the very least, something that could control the heat output of the element.

3#: Assuming that I will be lambasted for the above notion, what would be the cheapest/safest/easiest way to convert one vessel into a dedicated electric BK/HLT? Not interested in RIMS or HERMS at this point, just want the ability to brew indoors.

IMO, not a ridiculous contraption at all.

#1: Yes, a TC fitting either welded or silver soldered, element removed and TC fitting capped for propane heating.

#2/3: Cheapest is a PWM (e.g., http://stilldragon.com/index.php/diy-controller-kit.html), but if you want to be able to control temp you are better off with a PID solution. Search for e-biab on here and you will see plenty of single vessel builds.
