I'm looking to replace my gas burner and use electric for my boil kettle. Already have an eHLT/HERMS. I like the idea of induction over an element to make cleanup easier. And to not have to port my kettle.
Does anyone use an induction burner to boil 10 gallon batches (i.e., around 16 gal of wort)?
I'm seeing some very inexpensive 240v/3500 watt countertop units and my Spike Brewing 20gal kettle is induction capable.
Specific questions:
1) can these units handle 150# of weight? Their load is listed around 60#, but I could block the pot up to take most of the weight.
2) can they bring 16 gal of wort from 170f to boil in about 30 min? Assuming their efficiency is above 85%, they should.
Any other thoughts pro/con?
