I recently was "gifted" a 14 gallon demi-john. I don't really remember telling a friend that I'd like it, but here I am. Apparently, i did because he dropped it off last night.

What would you do with it? I typically brew 5 gallon batches. In my five years of brewing all-grain, I've only brewed 10 gallon batches twice. I'm not opposed to it, but looking for ideas.

Tne ideax i have are either a sour to keep adding to, like a solara, or a saison. Since I've never brewed a saison, I'm think to split a 10-12 gallon batch into different carboys with (2) different yeasts. I haven't brewed a saison yet, but the ones I have bought are very interesting.

Any ideas and suggestions are welcome.

Make a lamp! Moving that much beer in a glass container of unknown integrity (glass) could be a dangerous and messy activity. You could lose all that beer and possibly some digits!

You could do a mead in it. I also like the idea of a solera. I have a single vessel flander's red solera, as well as starting a multi vessel barleywine solera, and may start a single vessel RIS solera.

Appreciate the gesture, but don't use it for much of anything. I got a couple early on in brewing because the price was right, but wasn't thrilled with the thickness (or lack thereof). Terrified of moving one with a 10g batch, it was fill in place, empty in place. This isn't fun when you brew in the kitchen and ferment in the spare bedroom/office. Gave up on it in favour of some big buckets.
