What size keezer/kegerator is IDEAL for your needs and for the amount of beer you are capable of brewing?

I'm looking to complete my kegging setup by purchasing a chest freezer to turn into a keezer. I'm wondering what size most people go with or WISH they would have went with. I'm looking to get a 15cubic foot freezer to accomadate ~9kegs at the maximum. I figure if I don't have 9 kegs in there I can alway stock comercial beer bottles or cold crash fermentors with extra room. I currently brew 5 gallon batches but occasional 10 gallon batches are most likely in my future.

I have a 10 cuFt freezer that easily fits six kegs. I only have four on tap at a time because I just can't drink them that fast (even though I really try!). There is usually one or two in there not tapped, but chilled, carbed and waiting for a line to free up.

Edit: I should also say though that I have another fridge space that I use for bottles and cold crashing. That space is very necessary as well.

I personally feel that the 14.8 (15) cu ft energy saver chest freezers offer the best price/value combo if you have the room. They generally can be purchased for less than $400 if you watch for the sales (I got mine from Lowes on sale for around $320 with free delivery and haul away of the old unit). You can fit 6-7 cornys and tubing in them (I only have 6 but have seen a diagram for 7) and the bump out can handle 2 > CO2 tanks (I used 5# tanks x 2 in mine). I also store my hops and grains in it.

I also am looking at getting one for lagering my BB's once I find one on sale again. I have looked at smaller freezers for this but the design of the smaller ones limits you to 1 and maybe 2 6 gal BB's whereas you can fit several in the 15 cu ft freezer. Montanaandy

From what I read most people can fit 8-9 ball lock corny kegs in a 14.8cubic foot keezer without a collar. What brand do you have?

I have a Fridgedare (sp?). Yeah you probably can fit 8-9 but I only have 6 at the moment so that is all that I am concerned about. This also gives me plenty of room left over to store all of the tubing for the CO2 tanks + kegs, hops, grains, etc.

I was at Lowes today and unfortunately they have upped the price on this unit to $428 almots $100 higher than I paid. Montanaandy

I have the Magic Chef 7.2 that holds 6 kegs in a 34x24" footprint. It's perfect for my workroom. The girlfriend says "what the hell are you thinking of getting a smaller kegerator for?"

She's a keeper.
