I now hate Bob Barker

Okay, I'll bite. Is it the method employed that is irritating you, or the general opposition to whaling as a whole? Personally I have no problem with sustainable harvesting but I don't know that this is a case of that. I'm no expert, but if memory serves then Japan is engaged in whaling that is beyond sustainable.

I'm pretty sure Japan's entire fishing industry is considered beyond sustainable. Reminds me of somewhere...

Hate him because he donated 5 million dollars to try and slow down whaling? I don't have the whole article, but am I missing something?

I'd be happy if some rich guy would give me some money. I'd need a lot less that 5 million to do what I need to do.

I'd pleasure Bob for that much. :)

My great-grandmother was the midwife for Bob Barker's birth. Yes she yanked him out.

Not that I think the Japanese are right, but the idiot driving the speed boat needs to re-take a high school physics class. This is about as stupid as the local guy that lay down on the railroad tracks to protest a train that was carrying parts for a gas line. There's a reason gross tonnage has right-of-way.

I have no problem with conservationist doing their things. But 'Sea Shepherds" are no more than a terrorist organization as far as I'm concerned. Watch the show....the dude and his logic actually scares me sometimes.

I get a good laugh out of them sometimes, most of the time I am bored.

Yea is this the show that they make fun of on South Park? I've never seen the real version.

+1 on that. Watched a few of those episodes because the GF had them on. They have these stink bomb bottles that they whip at the people on the whaling ships hoping they break, they try to tie up the boats propellars with large ropes (I can only imagine what would happen if one of those boats got stranded out in the middle of the sea), and I even saw them ram a whaling ship with their main (and large) boat. They're an extreme danger to themselves and those working on whaling ships. Barker's $5 million could have done a lot more damage if he had put it towards lobbying against the whaling industry, instead of handing it over to those idiots.

I agree with Kaner. I think the sea shepherd captain is just an attention whore. He has been milking this whole we ram boats for whales long before he got his show.

So true, If i was in command of one of those Japanese fishing ships I would have fired some LIVE warning shots years ago. Those hippy conservationists think they are pretty bad ass but I am pretty sure they would turn tail as soon as some 7.62 is splashing around them.

that captin needs to stripped of his licnese running a not ice class vessel in to ice waters and putting not only his crew in danger but putting other humans lives at risk what a crock. stop whaling my arss eat the damn whales they taste great. but my main concern is the deck hands of the other ships, their just trying to do there job they were hired to do. if he wants to boycott them then go blockade the ports at which they return to. i work on a boat then rules of the road says tonnage rules. which the japps should sue for damages to the boat and a relieve the captin of his duties and by the way eff all who say whales no longer need to be eaten for subsistance!

Well I may not agree with the methods or the people doing it but I don't see anyone else trying to stop the Japanese whaling industry

"Japan plans to harvest up to 935 minke whales and 50 fin whales this season. Under International Whaling Commission rules, the mammals may be killed for research but not for commercial purposes. Opponents say the Japanese research expeditions are simply a cover for commercial whaling, which was banned outright in 1986."

research my ass ...You need 985 whales to do research. How much of the meat is going to be fish markets.

Well actually the rules are . International Rule 15:INTERNATIONAL

When two power-driven vessels are crossing so as to involve risk of collision, the vessel which has the other on her own starboard side shall keep out of the way and shall, if the circumstances admit, avoid crossing ahead of the other vessel

rule 15 does not apply to fishing vessels but the whalers aren't fishing they are doing "Research"

tonnage has nothing to do with it.They are both at fault here

And this looks starboard to me .

I think a speed boat intentionally crossing very closely in front of a larger vessel would be at fault no matter who hit who. That rule is for unexpected encounters and accidents not intentional acts.
