Ok, my first beer had a low fg but it deffenently had at least 4.5% abv, taste test of 2 22.oz bottles, wink, now my pale ale is at 1.010 after 4 days. I really think it's not correct, I ordered a refractometer so at least my pre and post boils will be on. Can someone tell me if there is a special way to measure with a hydrometer?
I use a thief a spin it in the tube. Is there more to it?

Sounds about right. Just read from the bottom of the meniscus and remember to adjust for temperature.
