A buddy of my mine gave me a Co2 tank and i have no idea if its been hydro tested. Should there be a sticker on it? I also have a new tank and i would like to know for that one as well. I'm new to the keg system so sorry if its a stupid question.

No, hydro tests are stamped month/year in the metal of the tank near the neck. Hydro tests are good for 5 years from stamp date.

i guess i see what your saying. One tank said 02 then a L in a circle then 07, meaning 02/07 i guess. The other saying 01 than a A in like a triangle then 12 meaning 01/12? So 1 is good and the other isn't?

Yup... I'm not sure what the symbols represent though... Maybe the testing facility emblem? Your local gas dealer can send it off for testing.

I took my keg to a fire extinguisher place last time it ran dry and they tested it on-site overnight, for like $20 plus the gas fill.
Any place should be able to tell you if the tank needs to be retested before you pay a dime.

Hydro tests are different then visual tests performed if a tank runs dry. VIPs are done to look for moisture/pitting etc inside the tank.

Hydrostatic tests are required by law and are clearly marked on cylinders. But yes any gas supplier can easily look at a tank and tell you if the tank is valid as they are required to do that prior to any fill
