I did my first stint at home brewing back in 1984. I had grandparents who had home brewed back in the day and I wanted to give it a try. I was a little luck back then in the Dark Ages that about 4 months after starting Charlie Papazian's book "The Complete Joy of Home Brewing" came out.

I brewed for about 4 years then gave it up. Things were a lot different back then. I remember the LBS sending out fliers announcing when the first shipment of new hops would be arriving and when you could get in line to wait and what the individual weight limit was per person. That was for cones and pellets. The line would start about 2 hours before opening with all the fresh cones sold out by mid day.

So fast forward to 2012. I had been lurking around this forum for most of the year and come around Christmas time, my family asked what I wanted. I wanted home brewing equipment!

I like home brewing for the experimentation/cooking part of it. Trying something new, something you just can't buy (usually for a good reason).

My current set up is for making 2.5 gallon batches. I chose this brew amount for several reasons: A bad batch doesn't take long to drink away, small batches require more frequent brew days so that you don't run out, equipment is much easier to handle, store and clean, and bottling is relatively easy.

My core equipment is 2 Better Bottles with racking/valve, 5 gallon SS mash kettle, SS wort chiller with associated garden pump (use a double sink with one side filled with ice water), paint bags to hold grain, digital scale, digital thermometer, BeerSmith 2 software, and the spare frig in the garage.

Thats about it, so everyone stay safe have a Great One!
