second batch of all grain, first batch with my new home made mash tun.
I batch sparged, completely draining the grain, then adding several gallons of fresh hot water and collecting it.
I collected 7 gallons of wort, pre-boil volume. My grain bill was 6 lbs pale, 1 lb biscuit, and 3 lbs red wheat. my pre-boil gravity was 1.035
I really wanted a 50/50 mix on my wheat, but the LHBS didn't have enough wheat, so I had to use 3 lbs of dried wheat extract to make up my difference, and then I also added 2 lbs of honey to the boil. my final gravity was 1.062.
anyway, just wondering how my efficiency sounded? my mash temp ended up at 160 but I let it sit for an hour, and the temp finished at about 150, so I'm hoping that I got a lot of fermentable sugars out of the mash. according to the book I have, it says temps closer to 160 give longer, non-fermentable sugars, so I'm hoping the slow temp drop gave me a little of both.
