I had a lot of fun making this one. Yes, there is a bit of kid noise in the background... I'm Homebrew Dad for a reason.

I edited out the three year old spilling the oats as he helped me turn them... of course, I also edited out me spilling the oats as I poured them onto the pan. :)

Exactly my method too. I do about two pounds for a five gallon batch of my Oatmeal stout. Might be the best beer I make.

The first time I did it, I didn't get a good enough toast because some started smoking and my wife was freaking out about the smell/lung damage (small price to pay, I say).

Now I wait for the wife and kids to be out of the house for a while.
 
2 pounds, eh? Now I'm wishing I had used even more. :)

Of course, the big focus this time around is to see if I can coax some toffee flavor from this beer...
 
I try to toast mine a little darker too (although it;s tough to tell exactly how dark you got yours). I get them looking maybe as dark as a brown paper bag. What is that? Maybe 20L?

One thing I noticed in flavor is that it's a big happy oatmeal flavor about a week after bottling and then quickly drops off. But then five or six weeks later, BAM! (boom) it's back again.
