I am brewing a double IPA with an original gravity of 1.090 with a goal of 1.018. Brewtoad says to use three yeast packs. Is this correct or will I be putting in to much yeast?

I see that I will need about three packs of yeast. I can do that. My concern is that the beer will have a strong yeast flavor. Is that possible or am I over thinking this?

Under pitching is going to give you off flavors, and probably ensure you don't get to your target FG. That's a really big beer....

The yeast will do their job and settle out, don't worry about that.

Thank you. That is what I was thinking, but I just wanted to get a clarification. This is my first "big" beer and I want to make it the best that I can. It is a personal take on Hopfather. I think that I will go with four packs of yeast, just to CMA.

If the recommended pitch rate is 3 packs then that's what you should or learn how to make starters and save a ton of money!

No, if you pitch properly and the beer fully attenuated you will not have yeast flavors in your final product but if you under pitch you risk stressed yeast which could stall or not fully attenuate or create off flavors in the final product
