I'm going to split 7gal of wort into a 6gal carboy and 2gal fermentation vessel.

I'm looking to use WLP320. For the carboy I figure about a vial of yeast should be good.

But what about the 2gal vessel...

Should I use the whole vial on this or a portion of it?

Use this to figure out your pitch rate and calculate a starter with a volume that is a multiple of 7 since you have 7gal of wort, say 1400ml for example, then you would pitch 1L of starter to the 5gal and 400ml to the 2gal. One vial should be able to produce a large enough starter for all 7gal unless the beer is a very high gravity.
