How much do you pay for a 50# bag of grain. Any grain. Just curious. I paid 40 bucks for 50 pounds of american pale ale malt and I felt I got a good deal. No shipping/handling. Straight from the LHBS to my closet(of doom! I say of doom because that's what's impending from the SWMBO... LOL!!)

check out northcountrymalt supply $26 for 55lbs of 2row, $30 for marris otter
North Country Malt Rocks! They have flat pallet freight charges, so to get a pallet to San Antonio, it cost $5.45 per bag for freight. Freight is always the biggest deal on 55# bags of grain.

I facilitated a group buy of a whole pallet at the beginning of the year and here's what it cost us per 55# bag delivered to Texas. We bought a whole pallet of 42 bags.

German Vienna $28.60 ($0.52/lb)
2 Row Pils $ 22.54 ($0.41/lb)
Maris Otter $31.91 ($0.58/lb)
2 Row Pale $23.09 ($0.42/lb)
Wheat $25.30 ($0.46/lb)

I paid $28.00 for a #55 bag of American 2 row at my LHBS. I'm not sure how much Marris Otter is which is what I will purchase next time.

I buy from Canada Malting here in Calgary. Paid $18 for a 55 lb sack of domestic 2-row, and $32 for a 55 lb sack of Maris Otter.

I usually get mine from the local shop, a 10 minute drive. $45.00 for 55 lbs. of Canadian Organic malt. I get my speciality grains from Morebeer for several batches so then I am set to brew when ever the urge stikes.

Anyone interested in a group buy here in Michigan?

I can get Rahr 2 row for 20 bucks from GW Kent in Ypsilanti, or Canada Malt pale ale for about 24 bucks from Midcountry Malt in Chicago.

We'd need to split up a 42 bag pallet. Midcountry will deliver a one-pallet order for $90 to Michigan, and I'm unsure yet what GW Kent would charge.

Either that, or I'd be willing to make a drive to either place!

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

19.00 for 50 lbs whole 2 row at gilbertson and page in fergus ontario.
this was last december. i need to make another run soon.

American 2 row (Briess) #55- $33.95
Maris Otter #55- $53.95
Whole Malted Rye #55- $58.95
Weyermann Pilsner (2row) German #55- $43.95

These are examples of prices that reflect what my LHBS charges, and they are an hour away.

Jim, I'd so tap that group buy if I was AG...I'm in A2 so Ypsi is spitting distance...

I just checked out their site and I'm impressed by their prices. I especially like how the malt extracts are not pallet-quantity and are very reasonably priced; at about $1/Lb.

25kg (50 Pound) bags of grain cost $100 here:(

I don't get the awesome cost savings from brewing AG :(

$100..... where the hell do you live. Even here, I can get 2 row from my LHBS for $55.
I just bought 1 sack of 2 row for $35 and 3 sacks of Marris Otter for $53 a sack, not from my LHBS, but from a micro brewery. Have you checked anywhere else?

OMDG, I think I'd find a few people to go in a pallet. That's how much 4 bags would cost then... btw, where do you live?

That's in New Zealand. There is a reasonably large brew shop franchise here which only sell extracts and kits and doesn't get in to grains. There are a few independant HBS's about which sell a small/medium range of grains, but I guess the small volumes sold keeps the price up.

That's a good idea about buying from a micro brewery, I'll ask around :D

I paid $56 for a 50# bag of Breiss 2-row at the LHBS. They wanted just north of $60 for Marris Otter. A friend bought a bag of Vienna for $76 from them.

We put together a group grain by from North Country like Ed did and it saved me big time. Of course now I have 600 lbs of grain in my garage just waiting for me to turn it into golden nectar. I don't think I'll ever buy bulk grains locally again. I've managed to tap into a local group of guys that are willing to do 2 or 3 grain buys a year.

I recently picked up a sack of Rahr Pale Ale malt from a semi-local brewery for $20. Any time I head to a brewery/brewpub, I talk with the brewer and see if they'll sell to homebrewers. This place even told me to bring some mason jars next time to also get some yeast for free...
